Howdy do Buffy:
I love North Carolina! What a beautiful place! Hope you had a great time.
Judging from what you're telling me, the 100mg just once per day of neurontin that was prescribed for me is an extremely "baby" dose. My doc warned me that it is so low, I may not feel results. But I do react very strongly to meds, so it may well be something I would start on, and work my way up. You mentioned things "slowing down" due to the meds, and that's another thing I noticed on the amytriptiline - got kinda constipated, which isn't good for gas/bloat. And then there was the weight gain and it wasn't "water". Pure lard! I do worry about introducing drugs that "relax" our systems, as my gas bloat can be formidable at times, though not "unliveable".
You asked re the fundo. Retrospectively, I am glad I did it, in the sense that tests proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was refluxing like a crazy person, my LES was at 4-very weak, and my swallowing was becoming impaired. But it didn't help my throat much, and I am three years post op. Only speech therapy has appeared to help that, and now I am also on Claritin and nasal spray in case post nasal stuff is part of the problem.
I say I am glad I did the surgery, because if it helped the reflux, it might help my future chances of long term damage from GERD and that was worth the price of admission, I guess.
But I traded the non existent "silent GERD" and bad throat for continual bad throat, and gas/bloat that has changed my waistline forever, I think, occassional chest pains and other funky pains under my rib and such that I didn't have before the fundo.
Armed with the information I now have after being on this board for two years, I likely would still do the surgery again, but would not expect it to help my laryngeal problems, which is why I originally did it. Hope that makes sense!
Continue to get better, Buffy! Sharon
