Hi Karen,
If you think back to just before you became ill with reflux...
Were you on a trip to some sunny isle where you may have have been exposed to untreated water, in drinks, salads washed in such water or even in the locally frozen ice cubes? If you had been swimming in a fresh water river or lake you may also have found some pathogen that could have infected you when you swallowed water accidentally.
A new mate could also have infected you since helicobacter can be transmitted in saliva when kissing. Even sharing eating utensils with an infected person could be a route of infection.
Pet dogs or cats that spend time outdoors can become infected and spread it to humans if they lick you near the mouth.
Think about it...
Ron
